Daemen Women’s Basketball Starts Out Fast: Still Unbeaten - Blog

Posted by radneyj on October 27, 2012 - 10:19pm

The 2012-2013 season has kicked off for the women of Daemen and they already look to be in mid season form. They are now 3-0 after this afternoon’s annihilation of Fleming College, final score 106-28. For the season, the women have outscored the opposition 278-130 while averaging 93 points a game. They definitely are playing some inferior opponents to start the season so don’t think that all the games for the Wildcats will be this easy. But as he always does, coach David Skolen in his 21st season with the team has the Wildcats reloaded and ready to play each and every night. As for today’s game, the Wildcats started the game on a 26-1 run and that was all she wrote. The Wildcats team cruised all game long and wasn’t tested except when they were trying to decide how they should spend the rest of their Saturday afternoon with a game tomorrow. With just under 3mins in the game, the Wildcats cracked the 100 point mark for the first time this year. Daemen shot 55% for the game outscoring Fleming 62-6 in the paint and forced 34 turnovers. Those numbers always will be a recipe for success no matter which team the Wildcats play the rest of the season. Senior Chelsea Andorka had 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks and 5 steals. Senior Monica Kosior registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The offensive player who caught my eye today was a smooth playing redshirt freshman guard Raeann Stilwell. She is very smart, crafty with the ball and her anticipation was the best part of the game today. She hit her teammates in stride consistently getting them open shots and knew when to shoot her own shot. She is a knockdown shooter who can drive and dish with the best of them. The defensive player who caught my eye today (which could have been anyone since the team held Fleming to 28 points) was sophomore forward Jordyn Broas. She was very tough around the rim. Jordyn blocked 2 shots early and then constantly intimidated the Fleming College girls into rushed shots near the basket. I expect more of the same total team domination tomorrow as Daemen takes their home floor where they are 120-11 in their last 131 home games. “The Fanatic”
