Kats Fall in Region III Tournament Championship - Press Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - March 3 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team's two-year reign as the Region III Tournament champions came to an end Sunday as the Kats fell 98-89 to No. 5 Monroe CC. ECC ends the season with a 22-6 record.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - March 2 - Freshman guard Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Erie Community College men's basketball team to a 97-94 win over Niagara County CC in the Region III Tournament semifinals. The Kats will play No. 5 Monroe CC in Sunday's 1 p.m. championship game.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 2 - Sophomore forward Alexis Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Erie Community College women's basketball team to a 72-50 win over Jamestown CC in the semifinals of the Region III Tournament at the Flickinger Center. The Kats will face Alfred State, which defeated Niagara County CC, 41-40, at 1 p.m. Sunday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Feb. 28 - Natosha Cummings-Price, head coach of the Erie Community College women's basketball team, has been named the Region III women's basketball coach of the year, announced today by the league.
Cummings-Price has led the Kats to a 19-5 overall record and a perfect 10-0 mark in Western New York Athletic Conference play. The Kats will face Jamestown CC in the Region III Tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Flickinger Center. The championship game will be at 1 p.m. Sunday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Feb. 27 – The Erie Community College men’s basketball team placed two individuals on the All-Region III first team and another on the third team, the league announced today.
Freshman guards Keron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) were the first-team selections while sophomore forward Rayshawn Sumlin (Cleveland, Ohio/Martin Luther King) was a third-team pick.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Feb. 26 - Charmaine Weaver, a sophomore forward on the Erie Community College women's basketball team, has been chosen as the Region III Female Athlete of the Week. Weaver (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) led the Kats in scoring in both games as they closed the regular season with wins over Mercyhurst North East and Genesee CC.

BATAVIA, N.Y. - Feb. 23 - Freshman guard Devon Elliott posted game-high totals of 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Erie Community College men's basketball team to an 87-69 win over Genesee CC Saturday afternoon in Western New York Athletic Conference play. The Kats finish the regular season 21-5 overall and with a 12-2 record in WNYAC play. ECC finished second in the conference.

BATAVIA, N.Y. - Feb. 23 - The Erie Community College women's basketball team recorded its 10th-straight win in Western New York Athletic Conference Saturday with a 75-43 victory over Genesee CC. The Kats are now 19-5 overall and 10-0 in league action. ECC will be the top seed and host for the upcoming Region III Tournament, held March 1 and 2 at the Flickinger Center.
ECC's 19 wins are the most since the Kats won 20 contests in the 1988-89 season.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Feb. 19 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team had five players score 15-or-more points as the Kats recorded a 98-91 win  over Mercyhurst North East at the Flickinger Center Tuesday night in Western New York Athletic Conference play.
ECC, ranked 15th in the nation, is now 20-5 overall and 11-2 in league play. The 20 wins marks the ninth time the Kats have won 20-or-more games under head coach Alex Nwora.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Feb. 19 - The Erie Community College women's basketball team improved to 9-0 in Western New York Athletic Conference play with an 83-57 win over Mercyhurst North East Tuesday night at the Flickinger Center. ECC is now 18-5 overall. ECC trailed 12-4 five minutes into the game before going on a 13-0 run to take a 17-12 lead over the next five minutes. ECC led 39-25 at half.
