LIGHTING UP THE TV AIRWAVES
By John Williams
I was a late bloomer as a journalist. A very late bloomer.
After an accomplished athletic career as a player and coach in both high school and university, I went back to school in 1988 to study print and broadcast journalism. I was 32 years old.
After graduation in 1990, I landed my first newspaper job with the Niagara Falls Review - in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I championed at the Review for three years as a sportswriter, lifestyles writer, news reporter and relief editor.
SALAMANCA, N.Y. (Feb. 23, 2013) – Western New York’s snowmobile-friendly atmosphere lent itself to an even larger crowd on Saturday for the Seneca Allegany Air Force Snocross round of AMSOIL Championship Snocross, presented by Traxxas and hosted by Seneca Allegany Casino. Thousands up on thousands of snowmobile racing fans spilled out from the packed grandstands and lined the sides of the wide oval track and climbed up into the nearby mountainside to watch the world’s top snocross racers put it on the line at round 12 of the 16-round series.

Recently, I was asked to create and record a radio commercial for a car dealership in Buffalo. Part of the script required that the announcer state, “These cars are Certified Pre-owned Vehicles.” So I asked myself, what does Certified Pre-owned really mean anyway? You hear it all the time in dealer commercials or see it in print but have no earthly idea what it means. So with this question in mind, I went to work researching what Certified Pre-owned (CPO) means to a few different carmakers.

Here’s what to observe when driving the vehicle:
Everyone loves the underdog. Especially one who triumphs in the face of long odds and adversity. In many ways, that’s what makes sports so special, especially when a true story is captured on film.
In my humble opinion, I list my top-10 greatest sports movies that were based on a true story.

The 2012 London Summer Olympics have been a rousing success for England, and for the World. And as always around this time, there are those areas of the World that talk about pipe dream ideas of hosting the Olympics in their own city.
This year one, or two, depending on how you look at it, of those areas is the Greater Toronto Area and Buffalo.
Toronto Counciler James Pasternak brought up the idea of Toronto and Buffalo putting in a joint bid for the 2024 Olympics according to the Toronto Sun.
Rochester native Abby Wambach has 4 goals in the 4 Olympic games that Team USA has played in. The USA women play on Monday in the semifinals against Canada. They won 2-0 on Friday vs New Zealand. Mens basketball won by the most points in Olympic basketball history when they beat and obliterated the Nigerians 156-73 winning by 83 points. Carmelo had 37 points in 14 mins and that breaks the most points in a single Olympic games. 29 10-12 3pt field goals. Make it 17 gold medals for Michael Phelps. What a way to go out in the final individual race of his career.
