Ball's 20 Leads Kats in Loss at Mercyhurst NE - Press Release

ERIE, Pa. - Feb. 5 - Despite a game-high 20 points from Erie Community College freshman forward Jasmine Ball, the Kats dropped a 63-55 contest to Mercyhurst North East Saturday at the Penn State-Behrend Junker Center. ECC falls to 9-13 overall and 2-5 in Western New York Athletic Conference play. Mercyhurst NE is 10-8 and 5-2 in league play.

ERIE, Pa. - Feb. 5 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team suffered its first loss in Region III play Saturday night, dropping a 93-91 decision to Mercyhurst North East at Penn State-Behrend's Junker Center. ECC, which saw its 17-game win streak snapped, is now 20-2 overall and 9-1 in region action. Mercyhurst NE is now 15-5, 6-3.

On January 30, 2011, former Erie Community College All-America bowler Ryan Ciminelli won his first Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour title. Ciminelli, the 2007 NJCAA all-event champion and 2005 NJCAA individual and all-events champion, rolled a 237 in the championship game to win the Earl Anthony Memorial Classic in Dublin, Calif.

SANBORN, N.Y. - Feb. 1 - The Erie Community College men's basketball team, now ranked second in Tuesday's NJCAA Division II, recorded its 16th-straight win of the season with a 87-68 victory over Niagara County Community College Tuesday night at the NCCC Gymnasium. ECC received its first first-place votes of the season (2) in Tuesday's poll.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jan. 31 - Erie Community College sophomore swimmer Rachelle Schmitt (Elma/Iroquois) won three events at Saturday's Last Chance Meet at Genesee Community College.
 
Schmitt won the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events in addition to finishing first in the 400 individual medley.
 
Sophomore Caitlin Schwinge (Amherst/Sweet Home) won the 100 and 1,650 yard freestyle events.

SANBORN, N.Y. — Wrestler Kyle Gibas has earned the Niagara County Community College Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending January 30, 2011.

Kyle Gibas is the top ranked wrestler in the 197-pound weight class for Region III and is ranked 6th in the NJCAA. Gibas is undefeated at the JUCO Level and has two 1st place dual meet wins vs. Mercyhurst NE and Oakland University that helped the Thunderwolves to their 11- 3 record. Kyle also took 1st place at the Jamestown Open last weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jan. 29 - Erie Community College freshman Dequan Jones (Brooklyn/Pacific) recorded a triple double with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as the Kats men's basketball team improved to 18-1 with a 105-80 victory Saturday afternoon at the Flickinger Center.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jan. 29 - Scoring balance keyed Genesee Community College to an 84-73 win over Erie Community College in Western News York Athletic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Flickinger Center. Genesee CC had five players scored 11-or-more points as the Cougars improved to 10-9. ECC fell to 9-11.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - (Jan. 27) - The Erie Community College men's basketball team won its 14th consecutive contest as the Kats rolled to a 92-45 Western New York Athletic Conference win over Jamestown Community College Thursday night.
