Women’s Hockey hosts the 2011 ECAC West Championships, Saturday and Sunday - Press Release

The Tigers (22-1-2, 15-1-2 ECAC West), ranked second in Division III, will host the 2011 ECAC West Tournament semifinals and championship on March 5-6 at Ritter Arena. RIT and SUNY Plattsburgh shared the 2011 ECAC West regular season title with identical 15-1-2 records, but the Tigers earned the right to host by holding the tiebreaker over the Cardinals.  Tickets for the tournament are $5 for adults and $3 for students.  The Tigers will host sixth seed Utica at 3 p.m. on Saturday, who advanced after defeating third seed Elmira, 2-1 in an ECAC West first round game on Feb.

 ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Feb. 27 – Behind two goals and two assists from Nicholas Friol (Orchard Park, N.Y.), the Erie Community College hockey team recorded its first NJCAA national title as the Kats downed Monroe Community College 4-2 Sunday in the championship game at Monroe CC. Friol was named the tournament's most valuable player.

ROCHESTER, N.Y.- Feb. 26 – Erie Community College’s Frank Briandi (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Nicholas Friol (Orchard Park) combined for nine points as the Kats rolled to a 9-1 win over Hudson Valley Community College in semifinal action Saturday at the NJCAA Ice Hockey Championships.

(St. George,Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) was named the 2011 ECAC West Player of the Year,
leading seven RIT women’s hockey standouts who earned all-conference honors,
announced by the league on Friday.  Head Coach Scott McDonald was named the ECAC West
Coach of the Year.

Seniors Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge), and Traci Galbraith  (Oakville,
Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas), along with Dagg earned All-ECAC West

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Feb. 21 – Freshman Dirk Thur (Clarence Center) scored two goals to lead the Erie Community College hockey team to a 4-3 win over the Canisius College club hockey team Monday at the Cheektowaga Recreation Center Ice Rink. Freshman Mark Trigilio (Orchard Park) added a goal and a team-high three assists.
Freshman Michael Boice (Kenmore) got ECC on the board by scoring at 10:38 in the first period. Thur scored the first of this two goals at 15:03.

The Tigers will honors its five seniors before Friday’s regular season home finale against Niagara on Friday at a special game time of 7:35 p.m.  The game will be nationally televised by CBS College Sports as the network’s “game of the week”.

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men’s hockey team will play its first
nationally-televised regular season contest as a Division I program.  CBS
College Sports will air the regular season home finale against Niagara at
Ritter Arena on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.

CBS College Sports is channel 232 on Time Warner Digital Cable in the
Rochester area, 613 on DirecTV, and 152 on Dish Network.  It is a premium
