CORAL GABLES, FL – The State University of New York, Buffalo women's basketball team battled from a 15-point halftime deficit, but fell shy of the comeback. The Bulls (2-3) dropped an 87-77 decision to Tulsa (3-2) Friday on day one of the Miami (FL) Thanksgiving Tournament at Bank United Center. The Bulls will face Illinois State Saturday at 3 pm.
BUFFALO, N.Y. - April 8 - Devon Elliott, a freshman guard on the Erie Community College men's basketball team, was a third-team selection to the NJCAA All-America team today.
Elliott's selection marks the fourth-straight season a Kat has been named to the NJCAA team. In 2010, God's Gift Achiuwa was a third-team pick. Achiuwa was a first-team selection in 2011 while Tyshawn Edwards was a third-team choice. In 2012, Dequan Jones was named to the third team.
EAST PEORIA, Ill. - March 21 - The Erie Community College women's basketball team's 2012-13 season came to a close Thursday morning with a 70-58 loss to Owens (Ohio) CC in the consolation round at the NJCAA Division II Tournament at the CougarPlex on the campus of Illinois Central College.
The Kats, who finish the season 21-7, were led by sophomore forward Alexis Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca) as she scored 25 points.
EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Louisburg (N.C.) College used a 13-1 run early in the first half and then a 14-3 run to close the half as the Hurricanes handed the Erie Community College women's basketball team a 66-49 loss in the opening round of the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tuesday at the CougarPlex on the campus of Illinois Central College.
BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 12 - The Erie Community College women's basketball team will play Louisburg (N.C.) College March 19 at noon (Eastern). The game will be held at the CougarPlex at Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Ill.
The Kats, 21-5, won their second-straight Region III Tournament to advance to the tournament. ECC is led by sophomore forward Alexis Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East). She averages 13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game.
The (12-18) Canisius women’s team played their first game Thursday vs (2-28) Saint Peter’s in the MAAC tournament at Springfield, MA. They won 79-58. Canisius shot a season best 51 percent from the floor and made 11 3 pointers. When Canisius is making their 3’s at 58% and holding the opposition to 37% FG from the field and 35% from three, there is no team, not even Marist who can beat them. Guard Ashley Durham led the Griffs with 15 points and forward Jen Lenox had 10 points. With the win the Lady Griffs moved onto Fridays game vs Iona.
BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 11 - The Erie Community College women's basketball team has been seeded 15th at the upcoming NJCAA Division II Tournament, held March 19-23 in Peoria, Ill.
The Kats, who will be making their second-straight national tournament appearance, enter the tournament with a 21-5 record. The 21 wins are the most in the program's history since the 1982-83 season.
The tournament schedule has not yet been released.
BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 3 - Alexis Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East), a sophomore forward on the Erie Community College women's basketball team, was named the Region III Tournament's Most Valuable Player following Sunday's championship game which saw the Kats record a 58-49 win over Alfred State.
Gray scored a game-high 18 points and snared seven rebounds in the championship game. She recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in ECC's 72-50 win over Jamestown CC in the semifinals.
BUFFALO, N.Y. - March 3 - Sophomore forward Alexis Gray (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) scored a game-high 18 points and blocked three shots to lead the Erie Community College women's basketball team to a 58-49 win over Alfred State in Sunday's Region III Tournament championship game at the Flickinger Center. ECC, now 21-5, repeats as the Region III Tournament champion, and qualifies for the upcoming NJCAA Division II National Tournament at Illinois Central College in Peoria, Ill., March 19-23.
The 21 wins for ECC are the most since the 1982-83 Kats went 21-7.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - March 3 - Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Isaiah Jefferson (Buffalo, N.Y./Riverside), members of the Erie Community College men's basketball team, were both chosen to the All-Region III Tournament team, announced Sunday following the championship game. No. 5 Monroe CC defeated No. 14 ECC 98-89 in the championship game.
Elliott scored a total of 63 points and snared 17 rebounds in the Kats' two games while Jefferson scored 32 total points and dished seven assists.
