ECC Athletics Department Wins NJCAA Region III Sportsmanship Award

Posted June 29th, 2012 12:33pm

BUFFALO, N.Y. – June 29 – The Erie Community College athletics department has been named the recipient of the NJCAA Region III Sportsmanship Award.
The award, in its third year, recognizes member institutions which exhibit dedication to the honor and integrity of intercollegiate athletics and whose student-athletes and staff display outstanding sportsmanship during competition throughout the year. This award was created by the athletic directors of the 26 colleges in Region III to recognize their peers who strive for excellence in all areas of athletics.
“Our efforts to practice and play each day with outstanding sportsmanship during home and away contests have been recognized by the other programs in our region,” ECC athletics director Peter Jerebko said. “I am confident it is because our staff and coaches are getting the message of representing Erie Community College with pride to our student-athletes. We will continue to stress the importance of sportsmanship in the upcoming 2012-13 seasons, along with our intent to continue the winnings ways of ECC athletics.”
The Kats won two Region III titles and were the runners-up in four other sports.
“This past season, the student-athletes, coaches and teams enjoyed many successes both athletically and academically, and this honor certainly makes me proud of everyone wearing a uniform representing ECC,” ECC president Jack Quinn said.
ECC will formally receive the award at September’s Region III athletics directors meeting.
